Following the simple process, you can easily have a garden in your home!

If you are reading this guide then chances are you are a beginner to Hydroponics, so because you are a newbie, it is recommended that you use a deep-water culture hydroponic system, as it is one of the simplest systems to understand and is easy to set up in your home.

This guide will show you how to set up your own DWC Hydroponic System, this involves the plants growing with their roots submerged directly in the nutrient rich water. It is a simple and cheap to build system that is ideal for beginners.

How to make a DWC hydroponic system at home?

What you will need:

  • Storage Container with lid
  • Net Pots
  • Air pump with Air stone
  • Air hose
  • Check valve
  • Drill
  • Hole Saw

Step 1- Cut holes

The first step is to cut holes for the Net Pots and Air Hose, but before you begin, you must select where you want to set your net post. Set the pots on the storage container top and mark the locations where they will go to make it easy for you.

Once you're certain of the position, cut out the holes using the hole saw. Make sure the holes are large enough so that the net pots fit but do not fall through altogether.

Moving onto creating the hole for your air hose, grab your drill with a drill bit the same size as the air hose. The hole drilled should be at the end of the tote lid and this is where the air hose will run through.

Step 2- Setting it up

The next step is to put together the air system that will supply oxygen to your plant's roots. You'll need to cut your air hose long enough to reach from the reservoir's centre to where your pump will be.

Connect your air stone to the end of the hose and insert the other end of the hose through the bottom of the drilled hole you made previously in the storage container lid. After that, attach it to the check valve, making sure the check valve is pointing in the proper direction to enable air flow.

The air hose should then be shortened by a couple more inches to connect to the other end of the check valve. Then take the open end of the air hose and connect it to the air pump.

This is the initial set up of the Deep-Water-Culture Hydroponic system complete, it is a really simple process but can take a bit of time. If you are ready with your plants then continue along with this guide. If you are not quite ready to add your plants yet then this is your stopping point for now.

What you will need for your plants:

  • Water
  • Nutrient Solution
  • pH measurer
  • Clay pebbles
  • Plants
  • Hydroponics Grow Tent

Step 3- Mixing your nutrient solution

Now that your plants are ready, it's time to make your nutrient solution. Add enough water to cover the bottom of the plant's roots and keep count of how many gallons you've poured so you can figure out how much nutritional solution you'll need.

Add your nutrition solution in accordance with the recommended quantity. After 15 minutes, test the pH and make any necessary adjustments.

Step 4- Adding your plants

This step is your final one, and then you will have your very own Hydroponics system in your own home! There are a few plants that are easy to start off with, if you are a beginner it might be useful to use bare-root plants or leafy greens that grow fast in a Hydroponic system. Leafy greens like spinach and lettuce can grow in only a few weeks and then you will be able to harvest them.

Pour some clay pebbles in the net pot; they are very simple to use since they are lightweight and absorbent, retaining air in them and boosting aeration for the plant's root system. Place your plants in it and add additional stones around them until it is level with the top of the net pot.

Store this in your Hydroponics Grow Tent so that your plants get the best care, then they can grow lovely and healthy.

This is one of the most popular methods of hydroponics because it is so straightforward, suits beginners and it also cheap. It is simple to put together and is really effective. If you are new to growing plants using a hydroponic system then this system is probably the best one for you.

Just because this system is cheap and easy, doesn’t mean that you are limited with what you can grown in a Deep Water culture system. There are lots of different options for you like herbs and leafy greens which all grow really fast. You can also grow tomatoes and larger fruits but they require a bit more effort.
